Common (rapper)

Lonnie Corant Jaman Shuka Rashid Lynn[2] (born March 13, 1972), better known by his stage name Common (formerly Common Sense), is an American rapper and actor. Common debuted in 1992 with the album Can I Borrow a Dollar? and maintained an underground following into the late 1990s, after which he gained mainstream success through his work with the Soulquarians.[3] Common's first major-label album Like Water for Chocolate (2000) received commercial success.[4] In 2003, he won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Song for the Erykah Badu single "Love of My Life".[5] His 2005 album Be was also a commercial success and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2006 Grammy Awards. Common received his second Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for "Southside" (featuring Kanye West), from his 2007 album Finding Forever. His best-of album, Thisisme Then: The Best of Common, was released in late 2007. In 2011, Common launched Think Common Entertainment, his own record label imprint. He had previously released music under various other labels including Relativity, Geffen, and GOOD Music. Common won the 2015 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and the Academy Award for Best Original Song, for his song "Glory" from the 2014 film Selma, in which he co-starred as Civil Rights Movement leader James Bevel. Common's acting career also includes roles in the films Smokin' Aces, Street Kings, American Gangster, Wanted, Terminator Salvation, Date Night, Just Wright, Happy Feet Two, New Year's Eve, Run All Night, Being Charlie, Rex and John Wick: Chapter 2. He also narrated the documentary Bouncing Cats, about one man's efforts to improve the lives of children in Uganda through hip-hop/b-boy culture.[6] He starred as Elam Ferguson on the AMC western television series Hell on Wheels.

Common

Rapper who, in recent years, has become one of the more prominent voices in hip-hop's new millennium renaissance. Born Lonnie Rashid Lynn in 1972, Common is the son of educator Dr. Mahalia Ann Hines and Lonnie Lynn, and ABA basketball player turned youth counselor. Common released his first LP, "Can I Borrow A Dollar?", under the Common Sense moniker. Tracks like "Charm's Alarm" and "Breaker 1-9" established him a lyricist with wit, street-smarts, and love for extended similes, while tracks like "Heidi Hoe" would touch on the misogynism that would surface sparingly on future work. In 1994, he released "Resurrection," notable for the smooth, 'Large Professor' produced title cut, as well as "I Used To Love H.E.R.", an ode to hip-hop. This album further increased his underground rep, while giving the hip-hop nation a new solid conscientious voice in a year that was excellent for underground artists ('Nas' (qv), 'Jeru Tha Damaja' (qv), Digable Planet, et al.) After a name change brought on by a lawsuit, Common reemerged in 1997 with "One Day It'll All Make Sense". With guests ranging from 'Erykah Badu' (qv) to 'Canibus' (qv) to 'De La Soul' (qv) and production help from mainstays No I.D. and Dug Infinite, the album was had a distinctly underground flair. His big mainstream breakthrough album, however, was yet to come... After an appearance on 'The Roots' (qv) smash 1999 album, "Things Fall Apart," Common moved to MCA Records. He soon was in the studio collaborating with the Okayplayer collective, and with help from the forward-thinking production troupe 'Ahmir-Khalib Thompson' (qv)(aka ?uestlove), 'James 'Jay Dee' Yancey' (qv), 'James Poyser' (qv), et al) released his fourth album, "Like Water For Chocolate" in the spring of 2000. With its varied sonic plateau (Afrobeat, funk, and old-school soul), it was much different from previous outings. But on the strength of tracks like the 'DJ Premier' produced banger "The 6th Sense", the album was a success, becoming a worthy addition to "The Next Movement." In 2003, Common released "Electric Circus", which ups the ante even further. The album, a hip-hop/funk/soul/rock/psychedelia hybrid, polarizes hip-hop fans like no other album has in recent memory. Common has also chosen to redefine himself, swearing off the alcohol, marijuana, and fornication that he had once indulged in. Now in his early 30s, Common strives to remain a relevant voice in an art form that is on life support.

Forest Whitaker

Forest Steven Whitaker (Longview, 1961. július 15. –) Oscar-díjas amerikai színész, rendező és producer. Legnagyobb szakmai sikerét a 2006-ban bemutatott Az utolsó skót király című filmjével érte el, amelyben Uganda hírhedt diktátorát, Idi Amin Dadát alakította. Alakításért nemcsak a legjobb férfi főszereplőnek járó Oscar-díjat érdemelte ki, hanem Golden Globe-díjjal és BAFTA-díjjal is jutalmazták. Ő az Oscar történetének negyedik olyan afroamerikai színésze, aki a legjobb férfi főszereplőként kapta meg az Oscar-díjat, rajta kívül eddig csak Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington és Jamie Foxx vehette át díjat ebben a kategóriában. További emlékezetes filmjei a Bird - Charlie Parker élete és a Szellemkutya című alkotások. Visszatérő szerepet kapott a The Shield című amerikai sorozatban, amiben Jon Kavanaugh hadnagyot játssza el.

Forest Whitaker

Forest Steven Whitaker has packaged a king-size talent into his hulking 6' 2", 220 lb. frame. He won an Academy Award for his performance as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in the 2006 film The Last King of Scotland, and has also won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA. He is the fourth African-American male to win an Academy Award for Best Actor, following in the footsteps of Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, and Jamie Foxx. Whitaker was born on July 15, 1961 in Longview, Texas, to Laura Francis (Smith), a special education teacher, and Forest Steven Whitaker, an insurance salesman. His family moved to South Central Los Angeles in 1965. The athletically-inclined Whitaker initially found his way into college via a football scholarship. Later, however, he transferred to USC where he set his concentration on music and earned two more scholarships training as an operatic tenor. This, in turn, led to another scholarship at Berkeley with a renewed focus on acting and the performing stage. Whitaker made his film debut at the age of 21 in the raucous comedy _Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)_ (qv) wherein he played, quite naturally, a footballer. He went on to play another sports-oriented student, a wrestler, in his second film _Vision Quest (1985)_ (qv). He gained experience on TV as well with featured spots on such varied shows as _"Diff'rent Strokes" (1978)_ (qv) and _"Cagney & Lacey" (1981)_ (qv), not to mention the TV-movie Civil War epic _"North and South" (1985)_ (qv) and its sequel. The movie that truly put him on the map was _The Color of Money (1986)_ (qv). His one big scene as a naive-looking pool player who out-hustles 'Paul Newman (I)' (qv)'s Fast Eddie Felson was pure electricity. This led to more visible roles in the "A" class films _Platoon (1986)_ (qv), _Stakeout (1987)_ (qv), and _Good Morning, Vietnam (1987)_ (qv), which culminated in his breakout lead portrayal of the tortured jazz icon 'Charlie "Bird" Parker' in 'Clint Eastwood' (qv)'s passion project _Bird (1988)_ (qv), for which Whitaker won the Cannes Film Festival award for "best actor" and a Golden Globe nomination. Whitaker continued to work with a number of well-known directors throughout the 1990s. While his "gentle giant" characters typically display innocence, indecision, and timidity along with a strong underlying humanity, he has certainly not shied away from the edgier, darker corners of life as his occasional hitmen and other menacing streetwise types can attest. Although in only the first section of the film, he was memorable as the IRA-captured British soldier whose bizarre relationship with a mysterious femme fatale serves as the catalyst for the critically-lauded drama _The Crying Game (1992)_ (qv). Always a willing participant to push the envelope, he's gone on to enhance a number of lesser films. Among those was his plastic surgeon in _Johnny Handsome (1989)_ (qv), gay clothing designer in 'Robert Altman (I)' (qv)'s _Pręt-ŕ-Porter (1994)_ (qv), alien hunter in _Species (1995)_ (qv), absentee father confronted by his estranged son in _Smoke (1995)_ (qv), and Mafia hitman who models himself after the samurai warrior in _Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999)_ (qv), among many others. As would be expected, he's also had his share of epic-sized bombs, notoriously the 'L. Ron Hubbard' (qv) sci-fi disaster _Battlefield Earth (2000)_ (qv). On the TV front, he was the consulting producer and host of a revamped 'Rod Serling' (qv)'s cult series classic _"The Twilight Zone" (2002)_ (qv), which lasted a disappointing one season. In the early 1990s, Whitaker widened his horizons to include producing/directing and has since gained respect behind the camera as well. He started things off co-producing the violent gangster film _A Rage in Harlem (1991)_ (qv), in which he co-starred with 'Gregory Hines (I)' (qv) and 'Robin Givens' (qv), and then made his successful directorial debut with the soulful _Waiting to Exhale (1995)_ (qv), showcasing a legion of distaff black stars. He also directed co-star 'Whitney Houston (I)' (qv)'s music video of the movie's theme song ("Shoop Shoop"). He also helmed the fluffy romantic comedy _First Daughter (2004)_ (qv) with 'Katie Holmes (I)' (qv) and 'Michael Keaton' (qv). Whitaker also served as an executive producer on First Daughter. He had previously executive produced several made-for-television movies, most notably the 2002 Emmy-award winning Door to Door, starring 'William H. Macy' (qv). He produced these projects through his production company, Spirit Dance Entertainment, which he shut down in 2005 to concentrate on his acting career. In 2002, he co-starred in Joel Schumacher's thriller, Phone Booth, with Kiefer Sutherland and Colin Farrell. That year, he also co-starred with Jodie Foster in Panic Room. Whitaker's greatest success to date is the 2006 film, The Last King of Scotland. His performance earned him the 2007 Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, For that same role, he also received the Golden Globe Award, the Screen Actors Guild Award, a BAFTA Award, and many critical accolades. He has also received several other honors. In September 2006, the 10th Annual Hollywood Film Festival presented him with its "Hollywood Actor of the Year Award," He was also honored at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival 2007, receiving the American Riviera Award. Previously, in 2005, the Deauville Festival of American Film paid tribute to him. In 2007, Forest Whitaker won the Cinema for Peace Award 2007. In 2007, Whitaker co-starred in The Great Debaters with fellow Oscar winner 'Denzel Washington' (qv), and in 2008, Whitaker played opposite 'Keanu Reeves' (qv) in Street Kings and 'Dennis Quaid' (qv) in Vantage Point. In 2009, Forest co-starred in the Warner Bros. film "Where the Wild Things Are," directed by Spike Jonze, which was a mix of live-action, animation and puppetry as an adaptation of the Maurice Sendak classic children's book. Around the same time, he also starred in "Repossession Mambo", with Jude Law, "Hurricane Season", "Winged Creatures", and "Powder Blue". He appeared in the Olivier Dahan film "My Own Love Song", opposite Renee Zellweger, and was part of the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2009, in Nigeria. He is married to former model 'Keisha Whitaker' (qv) and has three children by her. His younger brothers 'Kenn Whitaker' (qv) and 'Damon Whitaker' (qv) are both actors as well. Forest was given a star on the Hollywood Walk in April of 2007. In November 2007, Whitaker was the creative mind behind DEWmocracy.com, a website that let people decide the next flavor of Mountain Dew in a "People's Dew" poll. He directed a short film and created the characters for the video game. Whitaker has done extensive humanitarian work, he has been involved with organizations like, Penny Lane, an organization that provides assistance to abused teenagers. PETA and Farm Sanctuary, organizations that protect animals' rights. Close friends with Neurosurgeon Dr. Keith Black, Forest has helped raise awareness and funds for Dr. Blacks research. During the last couple of years, he has become a spokesperson for Hope North Ugandan orphanage and Human Rights Watch. In the year 2001 Forest received a Humanitas Prize. He was recently honored by The City of Los Angeles with the Hope of Los Angeles Award. And his entire clan received the LA BEST Family Focus Award. Last year he joined forces with "Idol Gives Back" and "Malaria No More"; he has become a GQ Ambassador supporting and fundraising for Hope North. He was a Surrogate for Barrack Obama's campaign supporting him across the United States. Whitaker's multimedia company, Spirit Dance Entertainment, includes film, television and music production. He works closely with a number of charitable organizations, giving back to his community by serving as an Honorary Board Members for Penny Lane, an organization that provides assistance to abused teenagers, the Human Rights Watch and The Hope North organization.

Keanu Reeves

Keanu Charles Reeves (Bejrút, 1964. szeptember 2. –) libanoni születésű angol-kanadai színész. Legismertebb filmjei a Féktelenül Sandra Bullock-kal, az Az ördög ügyvédje Al Pacino-val és a Mátrix. Pályafutása során többször is megválasztották a világ egyik legszexibb férfijának.[1] Libanonban született. Édesanyja, Patricia angol származású revütáncos, később divattervező; édesapja, Samuel Nowlin Reeves, kínai-hawaii származású geológus. Keresztnevének jelentése hawaii nyelven Szellő a hegyek fölött.

Keanu Reeves

Keanu Reeves, whose first name means "cool breeze over the mountains" in Hawaiian, was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1964, the son of English-born 'Patricia Taylor (I)' (qv), a showgirl, and American-born Samuel Nowlin Reeves, a geologist. Keanu's father was born in Hawaii, of British, Portuguese, Native Hawaiian, and Chinese ancestry. After their marriage dissolved, Keanu moved with his mother and younger sister, 'Kim Reeves (I)' (qv), to New York City, then Toronto. Stepfather #1 was 'Paul Aaron' (qv), a stage and film director - he and Patricia divorced within a year, after which she went on to marry (and divorce) rock promoter Robert Miller and hair salon owner Jack Bond. Reeves never reconnected with his biological father. In high school, Reeves was lukewarm toward academics but took a keen interest in ice hockey (as team goalie, he earned the nickname "The Wall") and drama. He eventually dropped out of school to pursue an acting career. After a few stage gigs and a handful of made-for-TV movies, he scored a supporting role in the 'Rob Lowe (I)' (qv) hockey flick _Youngblood (1986)_ (qv), which was filmed in Canada. Shortly after the production wrapped, Reeves packed his bags and headed for Hollywood. Reeves popped up on critics' radar with his performance in the dark adolescent drama, _River's Edge (1986)_ (qv), and landed a supporting role in the Oscar-nominated _Dangerous Liaisons (1988)_ (qv) with director 'Stephen Frears' (qv). His first popular success was the role of totally rad dude "Ted Logan" in _Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)_ (qv). The wacky time-travel movie became something of a cultural phenomenon, and audiences would forever confuse Reeves's real-life persona with that of his doofy on-screen counterpart. He then joined the casts of 'Ron Howard (I)' (qv)'s comedy, _Parenthood (1989)_ (qv), and 'Lawrence Kasdan' (qv)'s _I Love You to Death (1990)_ (qv). Over the next few years, Reeves tried to shake the Ted stigma with a series of highbrow projects. He played a slumming rich boy opposite 'River Phoenix' (qv)'s narcoleptic male hustler in _My Own Private Idaho (1991)_ (qv), an unlucky lawyer who stumbles into the vampire's lair in _Dracula (1992)_ (qv), and Shakespearean party-pooper Don John in _Much Ado About Nothing (1993)_ (qv). In 1994, the understated actor became a big-budget action star with the release of _Speed (1994)_ (qv). Its success heralded an era of five years in which Reeves would alternate between small films, like _Feeling Minnesota (1996)_ (qv) and _The Last Time I Committed Suicide (1997)_ (qv), and big films like _A Walk in the Clouds (1995)_ (qv) and _The Devil's Advocate (1997)_ (qv). (There were a couple misfires, too: _Johnny Mnemonic (1995)_ (qv) and _Chain Reaction (1996)_ (qv).) After all this, Reeves did the unthinkable and passed on the Speed sequel, but he struck box-office gold again a few years later with the Wachowski siblings' cyberadventure, _The Matrix (1999)_ (qv). Now a bonafide box-office star, Keanu would appear in a string of smaller films -- among them _The Replacements (2000)_ (qv), _The Watcher (2000/I)_ (qv), _The Gift (2000)_ (qv), _Sweet November (2001)_ (qv), and _Hard Ball (2001)_ (qv) - before _The Matrix Reloaded (2003)_ (qv) and _The Matrix Revolutions (2003)_ (qv) were both released in 2003. Since the end of The Matrix trilogy, Keanu has divided his time between mainstream and indie fare, landing hits with _Something's Gotta Give (2003)_ (qv), _The Lake House (2006)_ (qv), and _Street Kings (2008)_ (qv). He's kept Matrix fans satiated with films such as _Constantine (2005)_ (qv), _A Scanner Darkly (2006)_ (qv), and _The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)_ (qv). And he's waded back into art-house territory with _Ellie Parker (2005)_ (qv), _Thumbsucker (2005)_ (qv), _The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009)_ (qv), and _Henry's Crime (2010)_ (qv). Most recently, as post-production on the samurai epic _47 Ronin (2013)_ (qv) waged on, Keanu appeared in front of the camera in _Side by Side (2012)_ (qv), a documentary on celluloid and digital filmmaking, which he also produced. He's also directing another Asian-influenced project, _Man of Tai Chi (2013)_ (qv).
